Virtual Class Visits - Introduction to Digital Humanities Workshops

The Institute for Digital Research in the Humanities (IDRH) looks forward to offering "Introduction to Digital Humanities" workshops and class visits in Spring 2021 for both graduate and undergraduate courses. (All virtual)

IDRH is an intellectual hub for digital humanities inquiry and practice that reaches across and beyond the KU campus. We aim to build a flourishing environment for innovative exploration at the intersection of digital technology and humanities research. We provide resources and training in the practices and tools of the digital humanities. We promote public scholarship and partnership-building. We facilitate externally funded research. And we welcome everyone, from the curious to the novice to the expert.

Undergraduate: Introduction to the Digital Humanities

This 30 to 45 minute workshop offers an introduction to digital humanities tools and methods. This workshop has the potential to bring students from all disciplines into conversation, from English and History to the Computer Sciences and Statistics.

Students will be able to:

  • Recognize the wide landscape of digital humanities research and practices
  • Evaluate ethics and techniques of DH research
  • Apply DH methods to a project

Graduate: Introduction to the Digital Humanities

This 60 to 90 minute workshop offers both a close and distant introduction to digital humanities. With tailored instruction, it seeks to answer: What is digital humanities? And what are scholars doing with it in my field?

Students will be able to:

  • Recognize the wide landscape of digital humanities research and practices
  • Identify candidate research questions for DH approaches
  • Evaluate ethics and techniques of DH research
  • Apply DH methods and practices in their teaching or in their research and/or projects

If there is a specific research project in mind, IDRH staff can tailor the workshop to meet class needs, including training students on a digital tool.
