Transportation from Kansas City International airport

The airport is approximately one hour from downtown Lawrence.

The following companies provide shuttle service to/from the airport to Lawrence. Reservations are recommended. Shuttles run approximately every 2 to 3 hours (see schedules on their websites).The most convenient ways of getting to Lawrence (with door-to-door service) are GTS and Super Shuttle (running $85-$99 one-way); the least expensive ways of getting to Lawrence are via ride-sharing or via RoadRunner shuttle (fixed times and locations).

This service will pick up and drop off at Lawrence Holiday Inn/Holidome only for $46 each way, and you can arrange a door-to-door pick up for $10 more per trip. It is also possible to get a taxi (ca. $8) from the Holidome to your conference hotel.

Transportation within Lawrence

Foot: The downtown hotels are a 20-minute walk to the center of campus.

Bus: City/campus bus Route 11 runs approximately every 30 minutes between downtown (e.g. 9th and Massachusetts Streets) and the Kansas Union, Mon-Fri. Other routes (see in particular 32, 4, and 11) run near hotels on west and south of campus on 6th or Iowa streets.

Parking:

  • Thursday & Friday (Watson Library): The closest pay parking to Watson Library is in the Mississippi Street parking garage at the Kansas Union. It is possible (esp. early and late in the day) to park for free on e.g. Illinois Street and walk several blocks to Watson.
  • Saturday (The Commons, Spooner Hall): On Saturday there will be plenty of free parking beside the Commons.

Food on Campus

The Union has a food court on the third floor along with the Roasterie coffee shop on the fourth floor. Additionally, Wescoe Underground is located on the first floor of Wescoe Hall.

Concealed Carry

As a part of the University of Kansas, Watson Library and Marvin Hall where the Forum will be held are subject to the Kansas Personal and Family Protection Act, in effect from July 1, 2017. For questions concerning concealed carry on campus, please refer to the University of Kansas Concealed Carry website.

There are numerous restaurants, coffee shops, entertainment and shopping venues downtown, which is a 15-20 minute walk from campus and the Oread Hotel (intermittent bus service available).
