Overview

American Identities in Public Memorials hosts memory studies projects for the introductory American Studies course at the University of Kansas, "American Identities." For these projects, students research public memorials in their communities, considering how these memorials work to serve or counter hegemonic identity formation. In the summer of 2019, students wrote blog posts based on in-person fieldwork. In the summer of 2020, students completed a mapping project and a similar blog project based on digital research.

Under the absence, constant threats and the risk of disappearing from the memory of humanity, Huellas Incómodas / Uncomfortable Footprints, emerges as a documentary preservation initiative that works to document, preserve and generate a (digital) legacy of collective memory and the right to the truth from the struggles for a more just society.

Overview

This project set out to collect, annotate, and analyze a longitudinal corpus of university students’ writing in German as a Foreign Language at low proficiency levels. This project contributes to Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research by facilitating analyses of longitudinal language development both in groups and individuals, whereas most of SLA studies have been either cross-sectional or small-scale longitudinal (tracking 1-2 participants over time).

Overview

Margaret Cavendish (1623-1673) wrote numerous works of philosophy, plays, and poetry, as well as a science fiction work, an autobiography and a biography of her husband. While many of her works are available online, her 1663 edition of Philosophical and Physical Opinions has not yet had an open access and easily searchable edition until now. The work is important in that is it a substantial revision of her 1655 edition of Philosophical and Physical Opinions.
